Day 44 & 45

Thursday we packed up and drove 110 miles south on HWY 101 along the Oregon Coast to the Depoe Bay area.  Most of this section of 101 was not near the ocean, but as we approached Depoe Bay the scenery exploded.  What a beautiful town right on the water.

Intended to stay at a state park - Beverly Beach - south of town, but it was not what we had hoped for.  The sites closest to the Ocean with a view of the Pacific were taken (of course) and we would have had to settle for a forested site deeper into the park.

We knew about an RV park back in town that had "ocean view" sites and had driven by it on our way to the State Park.  We called from the state park and two sites were open.  So we turned our wagon around and pulled into Sea and Sand RV park.

We are right on the ocean.  Beautiful view.

It stayed partly sunny most of the day making for great ocean scenery.  Made our "camp" quickly (plugged in the electricity, hooked up the water, and most importantly set up the satellite dish) and took off to check out the little town and some of the sites.

First stop was, what else, a restaurant that overlooked the Bay.  Intended to just get a quick glass of wine and make reservations for Friday night, but the liquor license the restaurant owns only allows alcohol sales if food is "on the table".  So we ordered oysters and clams and wine.  Got in and out in about 45 minutes, but the sun was setting so we couldn't do much.  Heading back to the RV we saw a great ocean viewing area (Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint) and pulled in.

We weren't there 5 minutes and Ellen spotted whales.  So we spent the rest of the daylight watching the waves crash into the rocks of the Bay, the sun setting, and whales spouting water off in the distance.  Kind of boring.
